Converse Models manages the Miss Earth Beauty Pageant in Northern Ireland. The contest has a modern twist, as participants are required to promote an environmental message throughout the pageant. Club4Climate sponsors the ‘beauties for a cause’ pageant.
With growing fears of climate change and global warming, Miss Earth is the beauty pageant for the new millennium. Contestants must have a strong knowledge of their country’s culture and environment in order to fulfill the ideals of this competition – that beauty queens be strong and effective advocates for Mother Earth.
The Miss Earth pageant awards four titles representing the four elements: Miss Air, Miss Water, Miss Fire with the Miss Earth title being the top award.
The UK final of Miss Earth took place in August, in Leamington Spa. The title of Miss Earth Northern Ireland was awarded to Converse beauty Kayleigh O’Reilly. Kayleigh will now travel to the Philippines in October to compete in the grand final of Miss Earth, with the other Miss Earth finalists from England, Scotland and Wales.
During their month stay in the Philippines the Miss Earth delegates are required to attend various environmental seminars and educate people on the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). The competition, which has contestants from over 90 countries, concludes with Miss Earth 2009 being crowned in a worldwide-televised grand final, which is watched by an international audience of 70 million people.
